MySQL Workbench 5.2.35 GA Available

September 23, 2011 – 7:31 pm by tax

The MySQL Developer Tools team is proud to announce the next release of it’s flagship product, MySQL Workbench, version 5.2.35. This is the next maintenance release containing 29 bug fixes as well as new feature additions. We also updated the supported platforms to include most recent editions of Fedora and Ubuntu Linux.

MySQL Workbench 5.2.35 now supports the Native Windows Authentication Method – available in the commercial MySQL server product – and the creation of user accounts utilizing this new authentication method.

For the PHP developers out there, Workbench now also comes with a new set of plugins to turn SQL Queries into PHP code to be put right into your scripts.

A big “Thank You” again to everyone for the large amount of feedback and ideas we have received on how to further improve and extend MySQL Workbench. We are continuously working on improving the functionality and stability of MySQL Workbench – please keep sending us your ideas!

MySQL Workbench 5.2 GA

  • Data Modeling
  • Query (replaces the old MySQL Query Browser)
  • Administration (replaces the old MySQL Administrator)

Please get your copy from our Download site. Sources and binary packages are available for several platforms, including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Workbench Documentation can be found here.

In addition to the new Query/SQL Development and Administration modules, version 5.2 features improved stability and performance – especially in Windows, where OpenGL support has been enhanced and the UI was optimized to offer better responsiveness. This release also includes improvements to the scripting capabilities of the SQL Editor. You can read more about it in

  3. Can’t launch in my Win7x64-SP1 this version
    I replaced no-install versions 5.2.34 by the new 5.2.35

    By luistar15 on Sep 24, 2011

  4. luistar15, what error do you get?

By akojima on Sep 24, 2011

  5. @akojima Just a windows dialog saying the program is stop working.

But, I fixed. Looks like this version (5.2.35) has less .dll files than 5.2.34 version. Copying the files msvcp100.dll and msvcr100.dll from the old version fix the problem.

This files are in the 5.2.34-no-install but not in 5.2.35-no-install package:

  6. You need to download and install MSVC 10.0 32bit runtimes separately, since version 5.2.34a

By akojima on Sep 25, 2011

  7. Me too, couldn’t launch in Win7x64-SP1. Permission problems with folder “C:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL\MySQL Workbench 5.2 CE\python\site-packages\pysqlite2”. Made it fully accessible for users and the workbench worked again.

  8. I’m getting the same failures as luistar15 above, but have both the 32bit and 64bit MSVC versions installed.
Initially I just installed the x86(32bit) version only, with the same result.

Running it from the command line are get the following error messages :

    c:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL\MySQL Workbench 5.2 CE>
Unhandled Exception: System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other
    memory is corrupt.

at MySQL.Workbench.WbContext.init(AppImpl application, WbOptions options, VoidStrUIFormDelegate create_main_form_view)
    at MySQL.GUI.Workbench.Program.Main(String[] Args)

    Am running 64bit WIndows 7 SP1 :

    c:\Program Files (x86)\MySQL\MySQL Workbench 5.2 CE>ver

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7600]

    Will try the earlier release.

  9. There’s a JavaScript error on the download page that hides the download options. I had to disable JavaScript in order to download this release.

By Edward Savage on Sep 26, 2011

  10. Cannot download – when you go to the downloads page the download section just disappears, probably some goofy javascript

  11. Cant click on many of my servers under Server Administration.

    Error Starting Workbench Administrator
QueryError: Error executing ‘You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘plugins’ at line 1′
    show plugins.
    SQL Error: 1064

  12. What is the server version?

By akojima on Sep 26, 2011

  13. I’m also getting the same error with Workbench Administrator

Server version is MySQL 5.0.51a-3ubuntu5.8-log, however it shouldn’t matter on our end.

  14. Was forced to downgrade to 5.2.34. Will check back for an update or whenever the next release is out. Cheers.

  15. It installs fine (deb on Ubuntu Natty) but no launcher no icon. Starting from terminal runs fine. Why is that? Also No global menu!
How can I add global menu? Current menu is really ugly!

By Hosanna Technologies on Sep 29, 2011

  16. I’m also getting the same error as @acidshawk when connecting to remote hosts (localhost works fine).

By José Rui Abreu Mira on Sep 29, 2011

  17. I’m having the same problem here.
    But only on 1 computer.

One Computer is a laptop running Win7 (64bit)
when connecting to server it works.
(has another mysql server locally installed also) (workbench installed august 2011)

Other computer is towerPC running Win7 (64bit)
when connecting to the same server it does NOT work.
(does not have a local mysql server) (workbench installed september 2011)

    Think it is very strange.

  18. Global menu is a hack and doesn’t work well. You can get it back by editing the appropriate line in mysql-workbench script, but it will break the app.

By akojima on Sep 29, 2011

  19. it frequent shutdown in my windows7,no error message.

By beimuaihui on Sep 29, 2011

  20. @acidshawk: Please follow the workaround suggested in the related bug report.

By sergiodlc on Sep 29, 2011

  21. I get the same error:
    “Error Starting Workbench Administrator
QueryError: Error executing ‘You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘plugins’ at line 1?
    show plugins.
    SQL Error: 1064”

Funny thing is it worked fine until I reinstalled my development OS.

    Devel. OS: Win 7 X64
MySQL server is on Centos 5.4 / MySQL 5.0.84

  22. I’m really looking forward to trying this new release but I can’t get it to work on my Ubuntu 11.10 workstation.

If anyone has a workaround, please post.

    Thank you!

  23. It’s not working for me. I can’t run the application. It only says that the installation is successful, but it doesn’t open when I click it.

At first, I can’t even install it because it says that my msvcr100d-dll is missing. I downloaded something so that I can install it but then it doesn’t work.

What should I do? Thank you

  26. Is there any installer for 64bit Windows 7?
Is there any other way than installing msvc2010 32bit?

By JSumo on May 27, 2012

  27. No, WB is compiled as a 32bit app, so you need msvc2010 32bit.
